Search Engine Optimization Tip of the Month
Remember to provide a
call to action on your website's pages. Once you get the traffic from the search engines you want to keep them engaged. What do you want them
to do? Call you, fill out a RFQ or Contact Form - entice your customers to act!

Optimizing Your PDFs
The majority of the websites found
in the Industrial Marketplace have PDFs of some sort on their website. The PDFs can contain a wide range of valuable information such as: product
specs, helpful charts, white papers, brochures, catalogs, and news articles.
These PDFs
count as pages on your website and are indexed by the Search Engines. You may also find that when you search for something in Google or Yahoo a PDF
link is returned instead of an actual webpage.
What does this mean for you
and your website? You want to make sure that your PDFs are created and written with the search engines in mind!
Make
sure the name of the PDF has a keyword in the file name. If metal stamping is the term and relates to the content of the PDF, I might name the file
like this: metal_stamping_capabilities.pdf.
Under the Advance option you can edit the Meta Description and Keywords of the page. This provides the search engines another place to read
what the article is about and what the main focus is for keywords.
When you are writing your content for the PDF, see if you can saturate the page with
keywords. If you are talking about VOC's or Volatile Organic Compounds do
not use only the acronym, make sure both instances are used throughout the entire document. You want to have a balance between the two. A searcher
might search for either form of the keyword phrase even if only one of the versions is part of your keyword
focus.
Knowing these
three techniques for increasing your PDF visibility will be beneficial. It is hard for a search engine company to saturate documents that have
already been created. If you keep saturation in mind when working with the content of the PDF you can't go wrong!

Why it's Important to Optimize for the Search Engines and
People
You already know how important Search
Engine Optimization (SEO) is for the success of your website. You may not know how important good usability is for your site, too. Website usability focuses on the ease with which people are able to use your web site. The difference between
SEO and usability can be summed up like this: SEO is what brings people to your website; usability is what keeps them there.
Benefits of usability
A site that is optimized for
usability will increase the odds of a person requesting a quote, filling out a contact us form, or downloading a CAD drawing. Usability makes it easier for a person to find what they are looking for on your site. Usability will also
increase the likelihood of that person returning to your site or referring your site to a colleague. All of these are crucial to the success of your
website.
How SEO and usability work together
There are many times when optimizing for people and the search engines work together. An example would be adding call to action
statements on your site. Let's say you added a sentence like this to your web page "Call us today at 333-333-3333 for more information
about our activated carbon absorbers." This helps usability because you're adding a call to
action; you're making it easier for a person to contact you and encouraging them to do so. It addresses SEO because you've added the
keyword "activated carbon absorbers" to the page, which increases visibility for this keyword in the search
engines.
More ways to
improve your site's usability
Add a Request for Quote
form
Ad links within your copy to related services and
products
Make sure you have a
sitemap
On your contact forms, keep the required fields to a
minimum
Use a consistent top and/or left navigation throughout
site
Use alt tags on your
images
Make sure your contact information is on every page
SEO + Usability = More
Sales!
When your site is optimized for both the
search engines and people, good things start to happen. You will see more sales from your site. SEO and
Usability make it easier for a person to find your products and services, as well as how to inquire about them. Remember, SEO is what brings people
to your website; usability is what keeps them there.
