  • Review your keywords and determine what terms are relevant for 2008. Your focus may have changed since your last evaluation.
  • Update your sitemap on your website and in your Google account.
  • Create a plan of action to add new content to your website on a regular, consistent basis.
  • Review your PPC Campaign and SEO Campaign, organize your programs to work together to increase visibility and conversions.

Marketing for 2008
As the New Year starts, take a look at your marketing campaign; are you aligning your online marketing efforts with your offline marketing efforts and vice versa?

Think of all the places you are advertising online. Are you conveying the same message as your print marketing campaign? Think of all the places you are advertising offline. Are you conveying the same message as your online marketing campaign? Are you providing your website address on every piece of print advertisement?

Try to think like a consumer. When you are driving down the freeway, getting off the subway or reading a magazine and you see an advertisement that catches your eye…What is the first thing you look for? What are the two things you try to remember after looking at the advertisement? The company name and the web address is what you will try to store in your memory. What will you do with that information? Go to the ad’s website and learn more about the services or products it provides.

Almost every consumer will end up back at your website to learn more about you and what you have to offer. The initial research on a company is completed before a potential client will even pick up the phone or press “submit” on an online form.

Make sure your marketing campaigns align and your website is geared up for 2008. Provide the information your potential clients are looking for!

A Behind the Scenes Look into our Keyword Research

One of the most important aspects of having success in the search engines is choosing the right keywords. We’ve also found that it’s the most exciting part of the site design process for some of our clients. Therefore, we’ve decided to give you some insight into how we determine which keywords are the best to optimize for.

Initial Keywords
The first step involves YOU! We ask you to put together a list of 20-30 keywords that apply best to your industry. This list is used as the starting point for our keyword research.

Keyword Discovery
Next, we use a software tool called Keyword Discovery which gathers keyword data from search engines. We use this tool to research the potential search volume of your chosen keywords and to look for other relevant keywords that you may not have considered. For example, you give us the keyword “metal stamping”. As we research this keyword, we find that people are also searching for “metal stamping company” and “sheet metal stamping” so we add those to the list.

Low Search Volume
Now it’s time for us to remove keywords that have no searches or too low of a search volume. This will ensure that the keywords we optimize for are actually being used in the search engines.

Too Competitive
After that, we examine the keywords to determine whether they’re too competitive. There are several factors we consider, the most import being the number of competing web pages for the keyword in Google. If we think the keyword is too competitive for your site to rank in the top 10, then we cross it off the list and choose one that will help you reach your search optimization goals.

Too Broad or General
The final step is deciding whether any of the keywords are too broad. Let’s say one of your services is plastic injection molding so you choose “mold making” as a keyword phrase. However, our research shows people are searching for many types of mold making such as soap, fiberglass, candy, latex, and more. We would then recommend the keyword phrase “plastic mold making” instead, so it’s more relevant to your business.

Favorable Results!
Now we send the list of keywords with the favorable results to you for a final review. The end result is a list of keywords that are both highly relevant to your business and are being used in the search engines by your potential customers.
